Simply put, gas is obsolete. Gas is used for cooking, heating and hot water – all of which can be done with electric. And think of it, you need electricity service anyways, so why should you also have a gas bill. The gas line will be capped at the source therefore preventing gas service from even being an option. This means on less bill you would have to pay for. And one less bill is something everyone should be happy about.
There are two things to consider with gas service. First, gas is a finite resource. As the gas supply passes peak, it will only go up in price. If you are on a limited income, this increase in prices might be a hard pill to swallow. Even if you don’t believe in climate change, you can’t argue economics. Since gas can be replaced with electricity, this means a more efficient and streamlined process for bills. Second gas is explosive. A spark with a leaky gas pipe can cause an explosion that would likely also destroy neighboring buildings as well – therefore making gas dangerous to use. Maybe a long time ago, this was a necessary risk, but nowadays – it is not a necessary risk.
